13/193 Fairford House and balustrade to front 6.52 (formerly included in High Street as 'Fairford House')
GV II
Detached house and forecourt balustrade. Probably mid C18, on site of house of Tame family, builders of adjacent church in late C15/early C16. Ashlar front on coursed rubble stone, hipped stone slate roof with parapet and moulded modillion cornice, stone stacks with offset and moulded cornice. Double range of 2 storeys with attics to sides. Five windows, 12-pane sashes with central 3 projecting under wide shallow pediment with modillions. Plat band below. Ground floor has 4 similar windows and central stone doorcase with open pediment and row of small dentils, pilasters with fluted capitals and guttae. Round-headed soffit with decorative radial fanlight and recessed 6-panel door, 4 recessed, lower 2 flush. Parapet and cornice continue on returns of front range. Left hand return has single storey C19 square bay. Rear range has C19 alterations, including matching parapet and cornice. In front of house, stone balustrade forms a square forecourt. Moulded stone balusters with flat coping and panelled square piers approximately at 2.5m intervals, with openings to centre front and to each side.
