Details
WESTCOTE - SP 22 SW 2/249 Barn and adjoining stable/garage c6m north-west of Gawcombe House GV II Barn and adjoining stable/garage range. Late C18. Coursed squared and dressed limestone with finely dressed stone quoins. Concrete tile roof to barn, stone slate to stable/garage range. Rectangular plan with a projecting porch on the west side. Stable/garage extension linked via bridge to the barn at right angles on right. Part-brick range at right angles on the left and C20 farm buildings at rear of the barn and C20 lean-tos to the stableblock/garage, not of special interest. Barn; two-storey gabled porch off-centre right. C20 double doors; high double- width entrance in opposite wall. Two-light stone-mullioned casement to porch gable, clock above the window, single-width door in the right-hand return, lean-to to the left. Plank door to lean- to flanked by two single-light windows with segmental heads. Triangular ventilation slits in side walls and gable ends of barn. Stone steps up to bridge to loft over stable block to right. Stable block; two wide doorways with cambered heads (one now blocked with a top opening casement inserted in the blocking). Top opening casement with a segmental head to the right. Plank door to loft (reached via bridge) upper left. Further stabling and garaging at the west gable end. Interior of barn; 5 bays with the original collar and tie beam trusses with double butt purlins.
