Details
NORTHLEACH WITH EAST END SP 1114 EASTINGTON (north side), Northleach 8/70 Chapel cl0m west of Northleach Hospital GV II
Chapel (disused at time of resurvey December 1985) in grounds of Northleach Hospital. Built c1836 at same time as Union Workhouse (q.v. present hospital). Roughly coursed limestone rubble, slate roof to main body, stone slate roof to apse. Rectangular plan with diagonal buttresses with offset at corners and small apse at north gable end. C19 plank door with decorative strap hinges within moulded pointed surround and hood with large stops in the form of carved heads at south gable end. Stepped roll-moulded string. Cinquefoil within moulded circular surround with scroll-moulded hood with foliate stops below apex of gable. Base of former stone bell-hanging with carved king's head at apex above (upper part in pieces to rear of church). Side walls lit by 3 tall lancets with double-chamfered surrounds and continous moulded string. Apse lit by 2 lancets with pointed hoods and foliate stops. Interior; 3-bay nave with arch-braced roof rising from stone corbels. C19 stained glass within apse windows. Interior; 2-bay chancel with arched roof truss with 'king post' type arrangement at apex. C20 'kitchen' tile flooring. C19 pews with fleur-de-lys finials. Three painted icons. Statue of Christ. C19 wooden altar.
