FRETHERNE WITH SAUL SAUL JUNCTION SO 70 NE (east side) 6/177 Lock and lockgates on Stroudwater Canal II Lock and lockgates on Stroudwater Canal at junction with Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. 1826. Squared stone walls with stone copings, modified by some later work on bridges. Lock approximately 20m long by 5m wide, with 2 pairs of original timber lockgates, balance beams and paddle gear, all of unusual design for the Stroudwater Canal lock system. Two later bridges not of special interest. This is a major historical survival, intact and in remarkably good condition.
