II

Large detached house. c1850. Ashlar and coursed dressed limestone; ashlar chimneys; stone slate roof to front, concrete replacement tile to part of rear. Two-storey with attic; parallel rear range. Front: 3 parapet gables, central being narrower and steeper. Three-window fenestration, outer 3-light mullioned casements with segmental headed lights and jambs to chamfered mullions with decorated stops. Central segmental arched doorway with double glazed doors and iron lean-to porch. Two- light casement above doorway. Outer gables have 3-light casements with stepped heads; single-light to central gable. Plain bands: heavy cornice below gables. Triple shafts to gable end chimneys. Rear: 2 similar steep gables with segmental headed mullioned fenestration. Additional rendered block to left. Interior not inspected. A striking design of villa, possibly by Charles Hansom or an assistant when he was at Woodchester building the Dominican Priory - now Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation (q.v.), or Franciscan Convent - now Convent of Poor Clares (q.v.).
