Details
PAINSWICK JENKINS LANE SO 80 NE (north side) 5/142 Jenkins Farmhouse - II Farmhouse. Early C17, much damaged by lightning in 1962. Squared and coursed limestone, concrete tile. Narrow building with lobby entry off-centre right and opposute large stack, now in concrete block, and extension, left, at slightly lower ridge level, plus single-storey lean-to. Two storeys and attic, scattered wide-spaced windows, including at ground floor two single lights and one 2-light stone chamfered mullion casements with stopped hoods; first floor has two 2-light wood casements and a 2-light stone chamfer mullion casement. Extended section has various C19 lights. Two small gabled 2-light casement dormers. Stone porch with lean-to tile roof centrally, small bulls-eye window to front, and C20 glazed door on return left, concealing original entry. Back has various wide-spaced windows, including a 3-light moulded wood casement at first floor, a 2-light recessed chamfer stone mullioned casement with stopped hood low left, and a blocked opening to former cellar. East gable has recessed chamfer 2-light under stopped hood and C20 door: inside there are stone mullioned windows at each level of the original west gable. Far left, in extension is a peaked-head doorway. Interior has various deep-chamfer transverse beams, 2 spiral stone staircases, both becoming wood spiral at first and second floors; roofs A frame, with some heavy principals (c 400 mm x 230 mm). One major bressummer fireplace with stone cheeks.
