Details
PAINSWICK GLOUCESTER STREET SO 8610/8710 (west side) 6/105 Croft House GV II Shown on large scale OS as The Croft. Detached house. Early to mid C19. Lime- stone ashlar front, squared coursed returns, hipped slate roof, brick end stacks. Symmetrical main block, plus gabled parallel rear block and with single-storey flanking porch unit brought to pavement edge: house set end-on to road. South front (to Churchill Way) is 2-storey, 3 windows, all margin-bar paned sashes: to ground floor 20-pane flanking door, to first floor 12-pane flanked by 12-pane plus margins. Continuous moulded eaves cornice. Central part-glazed panelled door with fanlight in Ionic portico to flat entablature. Wing-to right with arched opening returns and sweeps down at road front, with part-glazed door in incised pilaster, respond, arch with keystone surround: this is linked to the main range by a lean-to slate roof. In the main building a 12-pane sash. Back wing, 2½ storeys with gable stacks appears to be of same date as remainder.
