Hambutts End
- II
Small detached house. Early to mid C19. Limestone ashlar, asbestos cement
slate roof. A small 'villa' type house with, attached left, a lower unit,
formerly apple store, now part of living accommodation. Main unit is two
storeys and attic, 3 windows, 2-light small-pane casements with central store
chamfered mullion, single light to centre, all to stopped hoods. Central plank
door with fillets, in small gabled stone porch, now with outer glazed door.
Return, left, has 2-light casement with store mullion and original iron case-
ment. Roof has coped gables and small square stacks. Lower unit, left, has a
9-pane sash over a light in a former opening to peaked head flanked by 2-light
casement. A 2-up/2-down dwelling with central tight spiral wood stair, this is
a good surviving example of cottage more fully detailed than other here;
possibly was a servants' dwelling to Hambutts House (qv).
