Details
PAINSWICK SO 81 SE 2/13 Barn about 60 metres south-east of Painswick Lodge GV II Small barn and attached lower barn. Probably late C18 rebuild, incorporating early work, lower barn reputed to be 1721. Main barn is good cut squared lime- stone and stone slate steep pitched roof to coped gables; lower barn cut stone, corrugated iron roof set over thatch. Deep gabled porch with later doors to north of main beam; south side has two 4-centred openings, possibly re-used C16 work, that to the right blocked, and central flush opening to large doors. Interior in 5 bays, collar and tie, 2 trenched purlins, deep slits; half height wall and rough ceiling to part. Lower barn has various openings including doors to the east and to north. Five bay, light collar and tie, 2 rough purlins, some light wind bracing. Beams are set at right angles to the principal barn (qv).
