STANDISH STANDISH VILLAGE SO 80 NW 7/260 Two Butcher Monuments, about 16m north of east buttress of porch in churchyard of Church of St. Nicholas GV II Chest tomb, Samuel Butcher 1763; pedestal tomb, Joseph Butcher 1820 earliest decipherable. Limestone. Chest tomb: flat top, moulded plinth and capping with south west corner broken off, lyre ends with floral returns, cherubs' heads to west end and cartouche to east. Large floral surround cartouche to south, recessed moulded rectangular panel to north and flanking scroll reliefs. Pedestal tomb: square, convex pyramidal cap with large crested ball finial, plain top and tall plinth on base, unfluted columns to each corner. Recessed panels with incised tombstone shape to east and west and raised ovals with draped leaf reliefs to north and south.
