4/1 Catswood Farmhouse

GV II

Detached farmhouse. Mid C17; late C17 or C18 addition. Ashlar limestone, random rubble to rear; ashlar chimneys; stone slate roof. Two-storey with attic; two-storey rear wing with cellar and attic. West front: 2 full gables with evidence of raising of main roof eaves. Two-window fenestration, 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements to ground and upper floors, 2-light to attic, all with hoodmoulds. Central doorway with square-headed opening and gabled timber porch. Chimney with moulded cap to each gable end and off-centre single-light upper floor casements. Rear wing: single half-gable on north and south sides, north with leaded attic casement with timber lintel, south with window opening blocked. Mixed fenestration includes several 2-light chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds. Parapet gabled east end of rear wing with single-window fenestration. Interior: stone spiral stair to each gable end. Extended collar truss roof in rear wing; collar truss replacement,roof to main range. Set of gate piers of earlier date to south west (q.v.).
