Details

HIGHNAM HIGHNAM VILLAGE SO 7819-7919 9/55 Gambier-Parry monument in the churchyard, about 8m east of centre of east wall of chancel, Church of the Holy Innocents GV II Coped tomb. Thomas Gambier-Parry, died 1888, by Sydney Gambier- Parry. Stone, and 2 types of marble. Slightly tapering to foot with chamfered corners. Coped top carved in high relief: projecting 3 sided canopy to east end, crocketed ogee arches, with pierced tracery below, crenellated eaves, stone roof above (described as if vertical, but in fact laid flat). Below, either side semi-octagonal shafts rising from floriate corbelled bases: 2 rings, capitals. On ridge between cross rising from 3-step base, floriate crockets off sides; 2 coats of arms each side. Whole set on marble base, moulded, chamfered top with Gothic lettering; different type of marble to moulded plinth below, whole set on plain stone slab at ground level. T. Gambier-Parry built church, Lodge, School and Rectory (q.v.).
