Large field barn and attached cart shed and cow stalls. C18 and C19. Barn
in five bays, limestone rubble, squared and coursed and with cut quoins
to deep projecting south east entrance, corrugated iron roof to coped gables
with kneelers, that to west with finial. Ventilation slots in west and
north walls, pair plank doors under bressummer flush with wall north side,
similar doors in south cart-way, square loading opening above. In internal
angle east from cart-way hipped lean-to open shed on wood posts, corrugated
iron roof, and projecting east from main gable a lower cart shed in rubble
with stone slate roof. Interior of barn 2-purlin tie and strutted collar
roof, no wind bracing, and a floor inserted in east arm, here also a 3-light
wood casement with grille looks into cart shed. Running south from south-
east corner of barn large C19 8-bay cow byre, stone slate gabled roof, good
cut limestone gables, open west front on posts carried on stone truncated
pyramid plinths, but some panels filled, and inside continuous trough c.700
mm wide formed in special bricks. An important element in the landscape
and with some architectural pretension.
