SP 02 28 WINCHCOMBE HIGH STREET (north west side) 4/148 Sudeley House, Abbey - House, and premises occupied by Skittles
GV II
Houses and shops at end of row. Late C18. Limestone ashlar, plain string above shop fronts and at base of gable to street at left end, expressed quoins to end unit, over 'Skittles'; mansard roof with stone slates, remainder Welsh slate, coped gable to street. A reversed U-plan structure with deep wing, left, fronting Cowl Lane. Two storeys and attic, 1+1+1- windowed: at attic level. C20 dormer, segment-headed dormer with sash, and sash with vertical bar in gable, at first floor, replacement sash, two 16-pane sashes, at ground floor level, C20 shop fronts; glazed door as part of shop front to Sudeley House, and good 4-panel door with decora- tive fanlight in square head to Abbey House. To Cowl Lane the return in two sections with breaks in roof line, includes three 12-pane sashes and C20 shop front. Although somewhat modified, this is an important 'anchor group' at the junction of High Street with Abbey Terrace.
