3/42 Outbuilding and horse-engine house, cl5m north of the Tithe Barn at Brockworth Court
GV II
Outbuilding and horse engine house. Late C16-early C17 and C19. Barn: square-panelled timber framing with early weather boarding set on a random squared and dressed limestone plinth which contains some reused finely squared and dressed stone; diagonally hung asbestos slates to roof probably formerly thatched. Horse engine house: red brick plinth with corrugated iron above felted roof. Rectangular plan with octagonal C19 horse-engine house on the north side. Two plank doors and a shuttered window on the south side. North side: horse engine house butts up to barn off centre left; plank doorway far right. Interior: 6 bays. The original form of roof truss appears to have comprised a tie beam supported on straight braces; the tie beam supports a king-post which rises up to a collar beam; diagonal struts either side of but away from the king post. Some of the timbers are missing from several of the roof trusses, some may never have had the king post element. All trusses leaning at the time of the resurvey - December 1986. The floor level of the barn has been raised to the level of the top of the plinth, presumably at the time of the construction of the horse-engine house which stands on higher ground. No machinery remains within the horse-engine house.
