15/18 N J Stokes Garage


Garage, formerly place of ill-repute. Late C19. Rendered or colourwashed brick, corrugated iron and slate roof. L-shaped with end onto road 2-storey, 3 bay range and to right of it at far end taller wide 2 bay deep range. Road end has C20 shop front with 4-pane sash over and awning on gable. Side has rendered ground floor with 2 canted bays with pilasters on corners and 4-pane sashes and large door with side light and fanlight in far bay. 1st floor verandah with open timber supports to roof and bowed cast iron open-work balusters, under 4-pane sashes and french windows, awning over. Balcony carries on in front of other part. Under 4-pane sash with pilasters, and wide passage. Above large canted bay with pilasters on corners and gable over with awning. House where Lillie Langtry lived when in Stockbridge with the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII. Old oil cans now displayed on balcony.
