10/3 Ibthorpe House 20 12 60 GV II*
Large house, associated with Jane Austen. Mid C18. Brick and tile. Symmetrical front of 2 storeys and attic, 5 windows, with a lower wing at back at the west side. Steep hipped roof with moulded and dentilled eaves cornice: 3 dormers with cambered leaded heads and casements. Walls of Flemish bond with blue headers, red flush quotas, rubbed flat arches, moulded 1st floor band, and high plinth (stepped below windows). Sashes in reveals. Doorway with moulded canopy on carved brackets, panel above a plain architrave, and double doors, above 2 steps. The west wing of 2 storeys, 1 window has a brick dentil eaves and casements. There are massive stacks at each end with moulded bases. The rear elevation has one hipped dormer, and irregular fenestration, colourwashed brickwork and sashes. A small service block at the north-east corner has a hipped slate roof and flint walls with brick dressings. Jane Austen here attended the wedding of her sister Mary to Mr. Lloyd (owner) and was afterwards a frequent visitor.
