THE SQUARE 1. 1501 (In the centre) Statue of William III SU 7423 3/1 29.7.49. I 2. Very fine C18 equestrian lead statue of William of Orange in the costume of a Roman Senator. Stone pedestal of equally good design. Latin inscription. Statue restored in 1912 by Public Subscription. Professor Robert Colton, ARA, Royal Academy, advised the Restoration Committee. Messrs Singer and Sons Limited, founders, of Frome carried out the work. The statue forms a focal point of the Square and the town generally. (NMR).
