SU 73 NW FARRINGDON CHURCH ROAD
2/49 The Haunt, and Gilberts' Cottage.
G.V II 2 cottages. Late C18, and early C19, with C20 rear extension. Painted brick walls of mixed Flemish bond, thin 1st floor band and high plinth to the wing, cambered arches to the ground-floor openings (the wing with an early C19 single window replacing 2 earlier lights). Tiled roof with wide projection to the east- end gable, catslide forming a rear canopy, cross-wing ½-hipped with the upper gable timber-framed, 3 gabled dormers with cills at eaves level. Narrow early C19 block, with C18 taller cross-wing (at the west end) extended C20 at the rear. Entrance front: 1 storey and attic; 3.1 windows. Early C19 cast-iron casements. Plain doorways, one door (Gilbert) of 4 panels the other boarded. The east gable has 2 narrow above 2 wider windows, being early C19 cast-iron casements. Document of 1739 refers to a new house (i.e. Haunt).
