SU 73 NW CHAWTON FORMER A32 2/18 Pond Cottages (Nos.1,2 & 3) 31.7.63 G.V. II
Terrace of 3 cottages. C16, C18, with C20 restoration. Brick walls of Monk and Flemish Garden Wall bonds, an exposed piece of frame showing at the south side. The nucleus of the building is a cruck framed late-medieval hall, but its main form is C18, with variations of height and spacing. East front: 1 storey and attic; 6 above 7 windows. Thatched roof hipped at the south side, half-hipped at the north, eyebrow dormers, the eaves line being lower at the south side. Casements, with several old leaded lights. Boarded doors in plain frames. At the north end there is a C20 boarded outshot with a slate roof, the gable above having exposed (C18) framing. Interior: No 3; the cruck frame is exposed, together with evidence of the insertion (early C17) of fireplaces, in upper floor, and timber-framed cross- walls.
