8/8 Trottsford Farmhouse

GV II

House, now 2 dwellings. C16, C17, renovated C1815, with late C19 extension. Brick and stone, with a tile roof. A building of several phases, beginning as a timber frame, having a bay on each side of a smoke-bay, which was later filled with a chimney stack, (and a 1st floor inserted), re-clad C18, extended to the rear in the mid C19 and to the east in the late C19. The old part has a symmetrical front (south) of 2 storeys 2 windows: hipped roof, brick walls of English and Flemish bond, with some lower sections and a plinth of ironstone C20 casements, and a mid C19 gabled porch with ironstone cheeks and stone front with a Tudor arch. To the east lies a narrow 2 storeyed unit, masked by a stone porch, linking the old part to the centre of a long north-south wing (former barn) with an east elevation of 2 storeys, 4 windows, ½-hipped roof, ashlar stone walls, casements, and ½-glazed door. The rear (north) of the old block is an extension of the mid C19, with 2 large gables, having decorative bargeboards, casements, and a plain doorway.
