8/52 Headley Mill and adjoining House
II
Mill building, with house attached, now subdivided into office and dwelling. c1800. Stone and brick walls, with a tile roof. The front (south) of the mill shows 3 phases of continuous walling, 2 storeys and attic, 1.1.2 windows. Plain roof, 3 gabled dormers. The walls are of ashlar, stone rubble, and brickwork in English bond, with brick oval arches to the openings. Cast-iron casements to the east section, with boarded doors (2 above 1) elsewhere and one filled door. The house part (with continuous front) is symmetrical, of 2 storeys, 3 windows: ½-hipped roof with higher eaves and catslide at rear, rubble stone walls with brick dressings, sashes in exposed frames, and 2 plain doors. The rear of the block is similar, with low arches for the water outlets, and outshots to the house part. Along the front there is a roadway, with a parapet separating it from the mill dam. The mill continues to work, producing provender.
