CASTLE STREET 1. 5231 (East Side) Portchester No 96 (The Walnuts) No 98 (Golden Cottage) SU 6105 13/254 II GV 2. Late C18/early C19. Now 2 houses but symmetrical facade preserved. Roughcast facade with cornice and parapet. Old tiled hipped roof. 3 storeys. 3 windows, generally sashes with exposed frames and cambered head linings, late C19 glazing. North side ground floor has later C19 angular bay window. Both sides 1st floor and south side ground floor windows 3 light sashes. Centre door (probably reproduction) with pediment, moulded architrave, pilasters and arched panels at top of door. Lower part to rear with similar facade and roof. Side entrance to No 96. Included for group value. Nos 94 to 100 (even) form a group with Nos 67 to 73 (odd) and No 81.
