WORLDHAM HARTLEY MAUDITT SU 73 NW 1/14 Church of St Leonard (Formerly listed as 31.7.63 Hartley Mauditt Church)

II*

Parish church. Early and late C12, c1300 and late C19. Rendered walls and tiled roof. Norman nave, Early English chancel, with Victorian north vestry, south porch, and west wall. Plain exterior, with some small Norman windows, some lancets, a coupled Perpendicular window, and Victorian windows to nave and east end. At the west gable, a tall lancet on either side of a central stepped buttress, which supports a stone octagonal base to a wood bell turret with shingled spire. The south door is c1200, of 2 recessed orders, with cushion caps to the shafts, outer dog tooth moulding, enclosing ornament of horse shoe pattern, with a deeply-moulded inner arch. Interior: the nave is plain, ending in a Normal chancel arch, and there is an octagonal C15 font. The small chancel has several notable wall monuments, of the late C17.
