10/12 North Lodge and railings 9.7.83 GV II
Lodge and railings. Late C19 by TH Wyatt. Brick with stone dressings, slate roof with lead ridges and decoration. In French Renaissance style, central carriage archway with room over pavilion on one side and wall on other with flanking quadrant railings. Front onto road has central stone roundheaded arch with carved spandrels of figures in relief, and flanking rusticated columns supporting scrolled open pediment containing cartouche. Behind low brick wall of 1st floor with central stone 2-light basket arched window in pedimented dormer. Trapezoidal French roof with lead oval window ½-way up, lead animals on ridges and wrought iron openwork containing M shapes at top and bottom. On LH side rectangular stone stack with offset head. To LH is wall surmounted by huge console bracket against arch, wall sets back and continues to pier with finial and section beyond. To RH square plan pavilion with canted bay having basket arched lights and pierced balustrade. Over in centre stone 2-light basket arched window in open pedimented dormer, and each side stone cornice. French ogee roof with separate top stage rising to finial. To RH length of wall running to pier with stone finials. Flanking quadrants of low walls surmounted by fleur-de-lys railings. On other side single storey wing behind pavilion with crow-stepped gable having sunflower medallions.
