Parish Church. C12 origins with south transeptual tower; north aisle and north chapel C12; C13 south chapel and aisle, tower rebuilt; in C15 chapels demolished and chancel and north aisle rebuilt, south porch added, in C17 tower rebuilt. Bubble flint and squared ironstone, part rendered, Chilmark stone dressings, old plain tile roof, but stone slates low down on aisles. Plan of chancel, 3 bay nave with transeptual tower, outshot aisles and large south-west porch. Chancel has C15 3-light cinquefoiled windows larger to north and east. On north wall remains of arcade round trumpet scroll capitals to piers and crocket capital respond. On south similar remains. Tower squat with angle buttresses to south, tall lower stage, small upper lancets, recessed weatherboarded belfry with hipped lead roof. Porch has C15 archway, over C13 mandorla of Christ. Inside above door C12 tympanum with St George and C15 wagon roof finely carved. North aisle has C15 square-headed window, and blocked door. Large C15 5-light west window. Inside nave north arcade of 3 bays, wall to west, west respond half-round, billeted capital, C18 round piers, east respond shafted, mutilated. At south-east is tower arch C12 of 2 square orders of alternating stone type. C12 north 3 bay arcade, with replaced piers. South arcade 2 bay with Greek cross-section pier with canted corners. Arch to tower similar. C15 wagon roof in chancel and nave with plastered panels moulded ribs and carved bosses. VCH; Vol 4; 1911; p590-1.
