11/18 The Old Rectory 5.12.55 (formerly listed as The Rectory) GV II*
Rectory now private house. Late C17 altered C19, probably on site of earlier building. Brick, old plain tile roof, lead ridges, 5 by 3 bay building within C19 service range attached to one side and rectangular 2 storey bay added to other. Front 2 storeys and attic raised on basement. Central doorway approached by flight of plain stone steps with wrought iron railings, 2-light casements either side in basement. C18 6-panel door in architrave and rectangular fanlight with semi-circular light cut in it. Moulded flat hood on heavy carved scroll brackets. In left bay on both floors, C17 timber cross-windows. Similar window on 1st floor in 2nd bay from left, inserted between it and around floor window C18 12-pane sash to form stair light. To right are cross windows with C18 12-pane sashes below. Raised brick window surrounds. Wide moulded timber cornice. Roof hipped with massive symmetrical stacks, with pilasters on angles, on return ridges. Garden front is similar but with 1st floor string and late C18 sashes. Interior is mainly early C19 but staircase is late C17 heavy oak with turned balusters, heavy moulded handrail and newel posts.
