5/57 Lane End Farmhouse
II
Farmhouse. C17 altered C18 and C19. Timber-frame with wattle and daub infill, refaced on ground floor in flint with brick dressings, C18 brick additions, old plain tile roofs. 3 bay C17 building with attached contemporary 3 bay dairy, lower and narrower but with continuous roadside elevation. To rear of house at right angles 2-span C18 wing added. Road elevations 3 bay, with smoke bay, house to left with left gable rebuilt in brick with over-hanging purlins and bargeboard. Blocked original window on 1st in left bay. Right bay has C19 and C20 3-light casements. Dairy walls blank. Exposed timber on 1st floor. Ridge stack right of centre of house in smoke bay. Dairy has stack at right end of C17 part on front wall. Other elevation has projecting 2-gabled C18 wing with 4 with pilasters of blue headers to each gable. Central C18 6-panel door in Doric porch with 12-pane sash above and C19 canted bays with sashes either side. Dairy range refaced in C18 brick with contemporary segmental headed doors and windows.
