5/33 Nos. 1 and 2 Church Cottages
GV II
House now 2 dwellings, late C16 or early C17, C17 and C18. Exposed timber-frame, with colourwashed brick infill, on brick and flint plinth, roof thatched, brick stacks. 2 storey, 3 bay, with narrow smoke or passage bay to right of hall bay, then C17 bay added to right and C18 brick bay added to left. Planked door in narrow bay with C19 tiled gabled porch built of oversized Beauworth bricks. Similar porch and door to inner end of left timber-frame bay, with brick on end steps. Ground floor windows C18 2, 3 and 4 light leaded casements, with blocked doorway in C18 bay. 6 2-light casements on 1st floor with bracket of an oriel window over hall bay and blocked 2-light mullion window in inner right bay and Winchester Fire Insurance Plaque. Roof hipped with wide eaves and corrugated iron outshot along rear. Large stack above narrow bay and small stack at left end of Cl7 building. Inside exposed frame mostly complete with beams to hall and parlour, to left, with ovolo flanked by cavettoe mouldings and cellar to parlour.
