SU 5139 MICHELDEVER CHURCH STREET Micheldever Barn Cottage (formerly listed 12/8 as "High Barn") 5.12.55 GV II

Farmhouse, then butchers shop, now house. C16 & C17. Timber-frame with wattle and daub and brick infill, roof thatched. 2 storey, 3 bay C16 building with C17 wing attached to right baywhich projects forward one bay, and C18 outshot attached to left. Outshot and left bay have long timber porch with plain and fish-scale tile roof. At inner end of outshot stable type door. Left bay has 3-light C19 shop window with small window above centre light. Centre bay has a large and a small C19 2-light case- ment window. Above are 3 2-light casements with leaded lights or glazing bars. Cross wing has 3-light C18 leaded casement on each floor. Roof has decorated ridge piece, is hipped over outshot and half hipped on wing with stack where ridges meet and tiled valley. Inside left bay and outshot open to tie beam with parts of gable wall remaining. Centre bay floored over, but base of centre post of roof visible on tie beam. Stack of C17 with 2-fire- places. Carved chamfer stop to beam in lower room of wing and queen post roof above.
