WICKHAM WINCHESTER ROAD SU 5611 10/2 Wickham Lodge 6.3.67 GV II*

Regency house. 1820. Walls of stucco, plinth, 1st floor band in the form of a cornice, entablature (of a simple order) below the parapet, supported by full- height pilasters, which divide the facades. Slate roof. Almost square two storeyed block, with formal treatment and simple mouldings; the symmetrical north front has a recessed centre and a recessed pilaster at the east side (being the north end of the east facade), 1.1.1 windows. Sashes in reveals, the ground-floor with triple sashes within a framework of pilasters (supporting the cornice band). The doorway projects slightly, with coupled square columns at each side, with entablature supporting a balustrade, the plain doorway containing a fanlight and 4-panelled door. The east elevation is symmetrical, of 1.1.1 windows opening onto steps (the south side being a later projecting bay, in style). The south elevation has 2.1.1 windows, the slightly projecting east side (1.1 windows) flanked by coupled pilasters. The severe classical style of the outside becomes richer within, with surviving doorcases and doors, ceiling cornices, and a staircase with slender cast iron rails. The west side of the block has a central break in the plain parapet for the drainage from a coupled and hipped low-pitched roof; this side of the building is now detached from the former service wing (Upper Wickham Lodge ).
