BISHOPS WALTHAM SU 51 NE 4/12 Bishops Down Farmhouse
II
House. C17 and early C19, with C20 features. Walls of brickwork in English and Flemish Garden Wall bond, west wall of stone and flint, plinth and 1st floor band to part. Tile roof, part half-hipped. Lobby entrance timber-framed structure, with L-shaped early C19 block attached at the north-east corner. The south elevation is two storeys two windows to the old part, the later part continuing as a considerable set back, as two storeys two windows. Casements, large late C20 ground-floor bow to the east side of the old part. Two plain doorways with tiled hoods. The frame is exposed on the east wall, and the west wall is unusually of stone, which returns on the front in part, below plinth level. Inside there is a massive fireplace block, and the lobby has an inner late C16 doorframe: the staircase (early C19) is in the later part.
