BRIDGE STREET 1. 5249 (South Side) No 58 (Formerly listed as the Crown Hotel) SP 0343 NE 1/65 7.5.52. II* 2. Partly medieval, much restored with C18 and C19 alterations and modern additions. Centre, of 2 storeys plus attic, is set back from street at rear of courtyard; long 2-storeyed projecting wings at either side with gabled ends oversailing on heavy wood brackets. Painted cement throughout. Centre wing has 2 wide windows with horizontal sliding casements and coupled pilasters at sides; covered way to right with exposed timber beams above; splayed bay in left hand angle (1 window) with C19 plain pilaster doorcase, entablature and later divided door; 2 gabled dormers; slates. Wings have plain sash windows, that on left-hand side with inset modern shop front on gabled end. Originally enclosed courtyard of the typical medieval inn, of which this is a rare example. Unoccupied (1976). Interior not inspected but said to be of interest.
