SK 38/3925 PARISH OF MELBOURNE CHURCH CLOSE 6/86 (East Side) 10.11.67 Vase and Pedestal to North West of the Four Seasons Vase in Melbourne Hall Gardens I Vase and pedestal. c1704 pedestal by Devigne and late C18 urn. Erected as part of a French style garden designed by Royal Gardeners to Queen Anne, London and Wise, for Thomas Coke of Melbourne Hall. Stone. Cylindrical pedestal on plain circular plinth has acanthus leaf decoration on base and moulded cornice. The sides are decorated with carved swags and baroque panels with initials 'TDC' inscribed in them, flanked by putti. Vase above is late C18 and has laurel leaf decoration on the base of the bowl and a Vitruvian scroll to the top. The lip is decorated in a Greek Key pattern and the lid has acanthus leaf carving. Included in the Derbyshire Historic Gardens Register at Grade I. See item 6/63 for sources. '
