SK 21 SE PARISH OF OVERSEAL ACRESFORD ROAD 5/38 (West Side) 19. 1.67 Nos 6 & 8, Grange Farmhouse and Attached Garden Wall and Railings (formerly GV II listed as No 8)
Farmhouse and attached garden wall and railings. Early C18, late C18 and early C19 with minor later alterations. Red brick, rendered to rear range, with gauged brick dressings. Two storey, three bay early C18 range to rear has a steeply pitched C20 plain tile roof with tall central brick ridge stack and dentilled eaves band. Late C18 five bay, three storey part to south end of front range has a graduated slate roof with brick coped gables on moulded stone kneelers, brick gable stacks, a central brick ridge stack and a bracketed painted stone cornice, whilst the early C19 two storey, three bay part to north has a graduated slate roof with brick coped gable to north on brick kneeler, an external brick gable stack to north and an advanced central pedimented bay. Late C18 part has central Tuscan columned doorcase with plain entablature and double panelled doors below a large fan traceried overlight. To either side there are pairs of glazing bar sashes and above there are five similar windows. Above again there are five smaller sashes, all windows with flat gauged brick arches. Attached to north the early C19 part has a full height semi-circular headed recess to the centre bay with a glazing bar sash to ground floor. Similar sash to south side and a blind similar sized recess to north. Above, similar arrangement of windows and recess and above again two small blind recesses below flat arches to either side. All four sashes are very close to the front wall with the architraves standing proud. Rear wing has a panelled C18 door to east, C20 window to west and glazing bar sashes above. Connected to the front of the house there are early C19 railings with continuous dog rail and arrow head finials, and attached to south end is a curtain wall with a blind recess and a semi- circular headed doorcase with panelled semi- circular headed door. Interior of late C18 part has remains of original open well staircase with moulded ramped handrail and newels made up of four knopped column on vase balusters. The balusters have been replaced with iron scrolls. First floor south room has early C19 recessed library shelves with reeded surrounds.
