GV II

House. C16, C17 and later. Timber-framed and roughcast rendered; tiled roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, cellar and attics. A jettied gable projects from the south end of the front. 2 windows to each storey: on the upper storey an old small-paned 2-light casement window and a tripartite sash, with a single vertical glazing bar to the central light, in a flush cased frame. A similar sash window to the ground storey below the gable and a single sash with vertical glazing bars. 6-panel entrance door, with the top 4 panels glazed, in a plain wood surround. A section of exposed studding along the upper part of the north side wall. C19 extensions at the rear have shallow-pitched slate roofs. INTERIOR: small cellar with some stone in the walling and a good original timber ceiling. The house contains 2 separate frames: the jettied section is the earlier, with an unusual arrangement of ceiling beams to the ground storey front room, and the housings of an original window at the north end which is now internal. On the upper storey sections of square Jacobean panelling have been reused and there is an old ledged and battened door to the attics. Side purlin roof in a single bay with very heavy timbering: principal rafters, collars and some rafters exposed. The remainder of the frame is later in date with few exposed features: probably originally a small separate cottage. A corner stair and low attic storey.
