House, later a row of 4 cottages, now 2 houses. Early C17. Timber-framed and roughcast; roof with C20 plaintiles and a wide wood eaves soffit. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, attics and cellars. 5 window range: mainly 2-light small-paned casements to the upper storey and 9-pane sashes to the ground storey in heavy moulded flush frames. The 2 gabled dormers have 2-light single bar casements. 2 ledged and battened doors in plain surrounds. The ground storey windows and door of each half have a continuous fascia board above. C20 single storey rear extensions to No.41 and an old gabled dormer with a 2-light casement window. A small rear wing to No.43. INTERIOR: No.41: a high weathered plinth on the inner side of the north gable wall and good studding above with a 4-light diamond mullioned window to the upper storey. The original rear wall has been removed on the ground storey and no evidence for studding remains. The frame and the roof are both in 3 bays; roof with clasped purlins and straight collars, rafters covered. The main tie-beams are very heavy, chamfered but rough. The internal chimney-stack between the 2 houses has the brickwork completely covered. No.43 also has 3 bays to the frame and roof and a similar roof structure. Heavy main beams on the ground storey have been hacked back or boxed. On the 1st storey the main posts, wallplates and tie-beams are exposed.
