GV II

House. Early C16, with later extensions at rear. Timber-framed and rendered; plaintiled roof. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, attic and cellar. A single window to each storey: on the 1st storey a 2-light small-paned casement with a flush surround; on the ground storey a larger but similar window. A gabled dormer with plain barge-boards has a 2-light casement window with a single bar to lights. An end chimney is linked with the stack to the adjoining house (No.59, qv). INTERIOR: cellar, now converted to a room and rendered, has its original ceiling with a large chamfered main beam and substantial joists set on edge. Frame in 2 bays with a small section of studding exposed along the former rear wall. The ground storey fireplace has jambs of re-used Abbey stone with Norman nook shafts and cushion capitals surmounted by a plain timber lintel. On the upper storey, a long transverse beam to the inserted ceiling. Roof, in 3 bays with a chimney bay, has collars partly cut back for headroom and all other components covered.
