GV II

House, now a shop. Early C17 house, built around during C19 and C20. Row facade mid C19. Brick. Pantiled roof. 3 storeys; 2-window range. Ground floor has a late C20 plate-glass shop front continuous with Nos 4 & 5 (qv) under a wide timber hood. 2 recessed 6/6 unhorned sashes to first floor under gauged skewback arches, and 2 similar sashes to second floor. Overhanging eaves. Rear with large extensions of 1966 partly engulfing an early C17 wing running north, which was built as a free-standing house. INTERIOR: the ground floor has been opened out into a C20 sales area. C17 rear wing cellar with wide brick fireplace under a 4-centred chamfered arch, the chimney flue intact. Various steps up to later brick walls reveal position of C17 courtyards. Ground floor is part of present shop. First floor with 3 sunk-quadrant bridging beams and a passageway to east has 2 walls of small-framed early C17 panelling, one wall relocated from the room to north. Roof has 4 trusses of upper crucks.
