Terrace of houses now including 3 hotels. 1844-47. Gault
brick, partly stuccoed and colourwashed. Slate roof. 3 storeys
on a basement, now sometimes with a C20 dormer to attics. Each
house when built was of 2-window range comprising a doorway
and a 2-storey canted bay (Nos 1-10) or a 3-storey canted bay
(Nos 11-18). At first floor each bay has a cast-iron balcony
held on cast-iron brackets. Fenestration is mixed, but
original scheme was of 2/2 unhorned sashes to ground floor,
French doors to first floor, one 3/6 and one 2/2 unhorned
sashes to second floor. Houses with 3-storey bays had 2/2
horned sashes to their second floor. Doors had 2 vertical
panels. Houses with some original sashes are Nos 5, 6, 7, 8 &
14. Houses with original doors are Nos 4 & 8. No.1A returns to
east in 5 bays. Central C20 door. Fenestration all of late C20
top-hung casements. Gabled roof with ridge stacks at
intervals.
INTERIOR: stick-baluster staircases with ramped and wreathed
handrails.
