3/279 Remains of 9/3/60 Oxenford Grange
GV II
Walls, possible remains of Oxenford Grange. Indeterminate date, carried out in C13 and C14 Gothic style. Sandstone rubble wall with ashlar dressings and thin sandstone slabs forming voussoirs to window arch. Plinth with wall above extending for approximately 10 metres, and rising to circa 7 metres high in the centre. Offset buttresses to north side flanking 3-light and roundel decorative style window. Reputed to be the remains of Oxenford Grange, a dependancy of the Cistercian Abbey of Waverley and granted to William Fitzwilliam. Later purchased by the Viscounts Middleton who built their house on the site and then demolished it upon the completion of Peper Harow House, 1775.
