House, formerly farmhouse. Circa 1700 with early C19 rear addition. Whitewashed rendered cob; asbestos slate roof to main range, gabled at ends, slate roof to rear wings, half-hipped at ends; end stacks to main range with brick shafts, left hand stack with a massive rounded bread oven. Single depth main range, 2 rooms wide, with heated rooms on either side of a central passage, the kitchen to the left, parlour to the right. Rear left and right 1-room plan wings contain service rooms and form a U plan house probably single-build of circa 1700. In the early C19 a rear outshut was added between the rear wings, containing a C19 open-well stair. C20 renovations. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front with a central entrance into the passage with a flat-roofed porch canopy with a cornice carried on square posts. Regular fenestration of 3-light casements, 3 panes per light except for ground floor room right, 2-light casement, 6 panels per light. The rear elevation has a central round- headed stair window with margin glazing. Interior: Both the ground floor front rooms have chamfered cross beams, the left hand room also has exposed joists and an open fireplace with red brecchia jambs and a plain lintel, the right hand room has an open-fronted china cupboard. The rear right room has a chamfered cross beam and exposed joists. The early C19 stair has a ramped handrail, turned newels and stick balusters, a second stair in a passage to the rear of the old kitchen (left hand room) has a second winding flight to the attic, a third stair, presumably the servants' stair, leads from the rear left wing to the first floor. No access to apex of roof at time of survey (1985) but the feet of the principal rafters are straight with straight collars pegged on to the principals, the roof structure over the rear left wing is similar. An unusual example for the region of a single build circa 1700 house.
