House. Probably C18 or earlier with a C19 extension at the right end. Rendered stone rubble, C19 extension brick; thatched roof hipped at ends; left end stack and axial stack, brick chimney shaft in front wall (stack no longer exists). The present plan is single depth, 3 rooms wide with an unheated room in the centre and a small 1 room addition at the right end. Some of the internal partitions have been moved, making the original plan difficult to establish but it is possible that the C18 arrangement was similar to the present, with heated rooms on either side of a central unheated room, probably originally a dairy, the heated rooms linked by a corridor behind the dairy. The asymmetry of the front elevation, however, suggests the possibility of an earlier plan form, perhaps with a through passage (blocked rear doorway opposed to front entrance). 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 window front with a rustic porch with a gabled thatched roof to right of centre of main range. 2- and 3- light casement windows with glazing bars. The rear elevation, facing Lyalls Cottage (q.v.) across a courtyard is 5 windows with regular fenestration of 3-light casements, 10 panes per light except for 1 smaller casement with glazing bars in a blocked doorway. Interior: Large plain crossbeams and exposed joists to ground floor rooms, ground floor room left has an open fireplace with a plain lintel, largely reconstructed in the 020. First floor and roofspace not inspected but straight principals said to be visible in first floor rooms. Lyalls forms a good group with Lyalls Cottage.
