CHUDLEIGH NEW EXETER STREET, Chudleigh SX 8679 6/65 Mistletoe Cottage and Cottage adjoining at south
- II
3 adjoining cottages, converted to 2 cottages. Circa late C18 with C19 alterations. Cob and stone, colourwashed and rendered; thatched roof, gabled at ends; end stacks, rear lateral stack. The original plan is not clear, but may have been 3 single depth cottages, the 2 right hand cottages 1 cell, the left hand cottage possibly 2 rooms wide. The 2 left hand cottages are now one property, Mistletoe Cottage, with an entrance slightly to left of centre leading into a wide passage containing a C19 stair. The left hand room has been subdivided in the C20 (chimney stack blocked), the right hand room is heated from a rear right corner stack, there was formerly a stair on the front wall. The cottage adjoining at the right is probably a 1 cell plan (interior not inspected) with a single-storey entrance block added at the right end. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 3 + 1 window front. Mistletoe Cottage, at the left, has a thatched porch on posts to left of centre and C20 2-light transomed windows. The adjoining cottage has 1 first floor 2-light C19 window, 6 panes per light, similar window ground floor left, ground floor right is a 2-light casement, 2 panes per light. Interior of Mistletoe Cottage has a stick baluster stair, otherwise modernized. Roof not inspected. A lease of 1765 is in the possesion of the owner.
