BICKINGTON SX 87 SW 8/16 Wrigwell House 23.8.55 - II
House. Early C19 remodelling of a C17 or earlier building. Solid rendered walls, probably of stone. Hipped slated roof with overhanging eaves. Rendered chimneystacks of C19 appearance on ridge at right-hand end of main range and above the space between the 2 left-hand windows. Large old stack on ridge of rear wing. L-shaped plan. 2 storeys. 7-window front, the 2 right-hand windows in a slightly recessed wing. All the windows have sashes with glazing-bars. The 5-window main range is roughly symmetrical with centre doorway and raised quoins at the angles of the building. Doorway has moulded wood architrave and 6-panelled door with 2 flush panels at the bottom; top 2 panels have late C19 glazing. Open porch on plain granite columns with moulded caps and bases, possibly of C18 date; flat moulded wooden top. Left-hand gable-wall has a C20 bay window in ground storey. Interior not inspected but the front range was formerly listed as having an 'open rounded headed corner cupboard, with cut shelves, rounded headed openings to passages etc. an Adam style fireplace upstairs'. Rear wing was described as having 'some fine old doors, one immense oak beam, old flagged floors etc.' The farm buildings to the south-east, which are not separately listed, contain an old cider press still in working order. The gateposts at the south-east entrance are separately listed.
