Details
SX 8366 IPPLEPEN FORE STREET, Ipplepen 6/136 Penlee, including garden boundary - wall railings and gate piers to 23.8.55 south-east - GV II House. Circa early C19. Stucco walls with rusticated quoins. Hipped slate roof with brackets under eaves. 2 rendered brick gable end stacks. Double depth plan of 2 front rooms one on either side of central stairhall. A third main room at rear right and kitchen at rear on left-hand side. C20 extension at rear. The partition between the right-hand room and room behind has been removed. 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window front with central door. First floor windows are original 12-pane hornless sashes. On ground floor the tall 18-pane hornless sashes have arched heads with gothic tracery. Original panelled door has 4 reeded strips instead of bottom 2 panels, each has a carved swag at the top. Round-headed doorway. Band between floors. At rear is circa early C20 leanto extension. Interior retain a number of original features. Simple moulded cornice to principal rooms. The front right-hand room has an alcove either side of the chimney-breast each with ornate ogee shaped head and moulded pilaster either side with decorative capital. Both front rooms have original panelled shutters. In the hall are reeded architraves with roundels in the corners and 6-panel doors. The open well staircase has simply turned newels with stick balusters. No original chimneypieces survive. To include the limestone rubble garden wall to the front, bordering the road, which has iron railings on top, of which the intermediate posts have urn finials. Slightly projecting gate piers at the centre with similarly decorated post either side of gate.
