SX 86 NE ABBOTSKERSWELL SLADE LANE, Abbotskerswell 3/30 Corner Cottage and Cross View 21.6.77 GV II Pair of cottages originally probably 1 house. C17 with C19 alterations. Rendered rubble walls with gable ended asbestos slate and slate roof. 3 rendered rubble stacks: 2 lateral, at front and rear, and one axial. Originally likely to be 3 room and through-passage plan, lower end to the left, with hall heated by axial stack backing onto passage, lower room heated by front lateral stack and inner room by rear lateral stack. Divided into 2 cottages probably in C18/C19 at lower end of hall. Probably C19 rear outshuts added behind hall and lower room. 2 storeys. Asymmetrical front. Cross View to right has 2 window front of C20 casements with small panes, left-hand windows 3-light, right-hand ones 2-light. Ground floor windows have slate dripcourses above. First floor windows are gabled dormers. Slightly off-centre C20 panelled door under C20 rustic open-fronted slate- roofed porch. Corner Cottage has 1 window front of C20 3-light casement on ground floor with glazing bars and C19 2-light casement above it with small panes in large gabled dormer. C20 part-glazed door to the right under wide slate porch hood supported on timber posts. Interior of Corner Cottage has roughly chamfered cross beams on ground floor. Probably C18 roof of substantial rough principals with pegged collars.
