Details
HENNOCK CHURCH ROAD (west side), Hennock SX 8380
10/128 Lychgate and tomb slab - about 10 metres south-east of the Church of St Mary GV II
Lychgate. C19 or earlier. Granite ashlar. Slated roof. Consists of 2 granite side-walls supporting a roof which appears to have been rebuilt in C20. Approached by a flight of 5 granite steps from street. Pair of iron gates with spear-heads to the uprights. Set into the ground under the lychgate, on the west side of the iron gates, is a re-set granite tomb slab dated 1603 (1604 in modern dating), commemorating Richard Washer. He was vicar of Hennock 1576-1604, and was buried on 20 March 1603/4.
