BOVEY TRACEY MOREHAMPSTEAD ROAD (south side) SX 8178 Bovey Tracey 11/77 - 4.4.78 Cross Cottage - II
House. Early C19. Roughcast solid walls, probably of stone. Slated roofs in two parallel ranges; the front range is known to have been thatched in circa 1836. Rendered chimneystacks in all 4 gables. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys. Symmetrical south-east front, 3 windows wide with centre doorway. Original wooden windows throughout; 2-light casements in second storey, 2-light French windows in ground storey. Each light straight-headed but with pointed arch to the glazing; small square panes with a pair of pointed arches at the top. Similar doorway with double doors, these having a flush wood panel in lower part of each door. North-west front has ordinary 8-paned sashes. Interior: not inspected, but wooden open-well staircase with square-section balusters and shaped step-ends opens off south-east doorway.
