Details

EAST BUDLEIGH HIGH STREET (west side) East SY 0684 Budleigh 8/91 Daw Chest Tomb approximately - 4 metres west of Tower of Church of All Saints GV II Chest tomb. Dated 1859 in memory of John and Philippa Daw. Limestone. Moulded plinths and flat lid with moulded edges. Each corner is bead-moulded and a vertical sunken beadmould gives the impression of corner piers. The rectangular panels each side are framed by similar sunken beadmoulds and those on the long sides are flanked by similar verticals. Both north and south sides are inscribed with Roman serif capitals. The south side records the deaths of John and Phillipa Daw (1850 and 1859 respectively). The north side records the deaths of William and Mary Kendall (1840 and 1809 respectively), two of their children and finishes with a Biblical quote. The tomb stands on a platform which holds the sockets from former area railings.
